Can no rehab clinic hold Shane MacGowan?

Q Magazine May 2000

Shane MacGowan has been ejected from celebrity rehab centre The Priory. The professionally unhealthy singer was thrown out of the Roehampton drying-out clinic, noted for it's treatment of Kate Moss, Paula Yates and Finley Quaye, after a series of increasingly heated arguments with it's staff.

MacGowan's verdict on the incident? "The Priory? it had a love cross outside, it was full of priests," he said. "They were buggering eachother."

MacGowan's aborted attempt at recuperation follows his recent conflict with Sinead O'Connor, who provided North London police with information that led to the ex-Pogue's arrest for herion possession on 19 Novmber last year. MacGowan was cautioned on 6 March.

"Myself and Sinead were never friends, I didn't like her anyway." He told Irish TV's The Late Late Show on 18 February, contradicting appreaciative statements he's made about her in the past. "She would do anything for publicity, that's fairly obvious." MacGowan concluded his television appearance with a cover of Hank William's Angel Of Death.
