The Finest London-Irish band remastered
Although it's easy to blame Shane MacGowan's descent into a
shambles of a man for the manner in which The Pogues' musical legacy has been
pissed away, their back catalogue is a reminder that they were briefly, but
properly great.
From the punk-folk mavericks of Red Roses For Me, they became the truest
chroniclers of the London-Irish experience on their second and third albums,
before MacGowan lost his genius to the bottle on Peace And Love and the Joe
Strummer-produced Hell's Ditch. Without him, The Pogues soldiered on for
two further adequate albums, but the flame had long been extinguished.
