New Dropkick Murphys album
With contributions from Spider Stacy

"The Meanest Of Times" will be available from September 18th on DKM's own record label, Born & Bred Records which will be distributed by Warner Music's Independent Label Group.

"The Meanest Of Times" is a collection of tales about family, loyalty and remembering where you came from. It contains what we hope are all the best elements of the DKM sound: classic punk rock, Celtic folk and American rock'n'roll. The album also features guest appearances by Spider Stacy of The Pogues and Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners as a special treat.

Keep an eye on the bands website for downloadable songs from the album.

Pogue Mahone: Kiss My Arse:
The Story of The Pogues

Author: Carol Clerk
Published by Omnibus Press and on sale from 9 October.
Synopsis.(Source: Amazon UK)
The story of The Pogues is as vivid as the music they've been making for the last 20 years. Author, Carol Clerk interviews Shane MacGowan, Spider Stacy, Jem Finer, Andrew Ranken, James Fearnley and Cait O'Riordan, who tell their story where it all started, in the streets and pubs of London's Kings Cross. She also interviews the managers, agents, label bosses, film-makers, producers, promoters, PRs, journalists, friends and fans, who tell of a fiercely loyal group of friends. We read of their arguments and drunken spats, their love affairs, the marriage of Cait and Elvis Costello, the death of Kirsty MacColl, the illnesses, the drugs, the sackings, the legal actions and above all, the over-riding passion for music.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

Some of you who attended the Nokia on the 17th or 18th may have been aware of multiple film cameras shooting the shows. We hope to use this footage, perhaps in conjunction with the film we made of Manchester MEN 2004, for a live DVD souvenir later in the year.

In addition, Nora Meyers is still making her, if you will, Poguementary, and has been present all through the UK/Ireland tour 2005 and this US East Coast tour as well as the Meteor Awards and other events. She and her producer Danielle Von Zerneck have accumulated miles of footage and will be using it in conjunction with some archive material for a projected cinema film which would also, in due course, be a DVD.

There have been several questions on this topic and this is the most complete answer I can give at present. No release dates or even projected release dates yet. Soon come, as they say in Cahirciveen.

Glasgow review says it all:

"With Jem Finer’s daughter, Ella, filling the role of Kirsty MacColl, looking down from the balcony as the world’s greatest Christmas song pushed a packed venue to pure emotion, was utterly unforgettable. Strangers were hugging, punks were crying, others spilled lager over their heads as they held their pints aloft to singalong. If you ever go looking for the true meaning of Christmas, this was it."

Filming was done during the Cardiff gig.
Statements from the band:
Philip Chevron "We're making a full length movie, produced by James's wife Danielle Von Zerneck. Nora and Tom have been following us around since last week. Tonight, I think they mainly concentrated on getting shots of the audience, who are, of course, the real stars of the movie."

James Fearnley "see Philip's contribution concerning Cardiff. We have a documentary team (Nora and Tom) filming as much as we can tolerate, to be finished, I suppose, this time next year - and who knows, it might include stuff from Manchester 2004, which hasn't seen light of day, but, hell, should."

The Radiators albums reissued

Irish Times review April 1st.
THE RADIATORS
Ghostown
Chiswick/Gael Linn
*****

On Tuesday, October 31st, 1978, The Radiators took to the stage of London's Electric Ballroom to preview material from their forthcoming Ghostown album. These new Phil Chevron-Pete Holidai songs detailed "a midnight walk through Dublin with the ghosts of the city's past". They were lost on the punk kidz in the audience. We now know that the safety-pinned fools were being treated to the first ever live airing of probably the greatest Irish rock album of all time.

To put this in local context: The Radiators' creative leap from 1977's TV Tube Heart to 1979's Ghostown was similar to The Beatles' from She Loves You to Tomorrow Never Knows. Their subject matter was a Dublin (to be pronounced with three syllables) paralyzed by political and religious hypocrisies. The song cycle, beginning with the jumpy, harmony-laden Millon Dollar Hero and ending with the tense, nervous Dead the Beast, Dead the Poison, details a cowed city - haunted by its past, with little present and yes, No Future. The songs are magnificent: the stomping They're Looting in the Town; the beautiful snarl of Kitty Ricketts and the stark home-truths of Song of the Faithful Departed.

Musically, the album was audacious for its time; lyrically, it's never been bettered. Ghostown represents the first time in Irish cultural life that a rock music 33rpm could sit pretty alongside the country's literary and dramatic output. In a bitter perversion of the truth, the album marked the beginning of the end of The Radiators. Ghostown was their parting shot to posterity. Quite simply: a monumental artistic achievement.

Philip Chevrons comment on the Artwork: "Just saw Alex's posting of the artwork for the Town & Country DVD. Looks hideous - and does it REALLY say 1998 or is that just my poor eyesight? Anyway, nothing to do with us, Guv."

Seems like the people at Celtic collection have changed the sleeve, it doesn't say 1998 anymore.

ATTACK ON POGUES FRONTMAN

Apr 21 2004
By Tom Parry

SINGER Shane MacGowan has been beaten up in a pub, it was revealed last night.
The Pogues frontman was left with serious injuries to his face.
Shane, 46 - famed for his heavy drinking - was attacked in the toilets at The Joiners Arms in Soho, London.
He was hit with a metal bar, kicked and punched.
One of the pub's regulars said: "It was a totally unprovoked attack.
"He was just having a quiet drink with his mates - and had even been chatting to one of the blokes who jumped on him."
The star was taken to nearby St Thomas's Hospital with cuts and a fractured cheekbone.
Friends of the singer chased the two alleged attackers and held on to them until police arrived.
Police confirmed two men, aged 20 and 21, were questioned and released on bail.

New Release featuring Shane MacGowan.
Seanchai and the Unity Squads new album "Rebel Massive" has been released. This album features Shane MacGowan on the song "Mise Eire".

"Rebel with A Cause" Irish Voice 6/4/04
"Mise Eire" not since Bob Marley cried "Get Up,stand up" has an artist put a political rallying cry atop a reggae beat with such a thrilling effect. For this track, Byrne enlisted friends from both sides of the Atlantic, including Damien Dempsey and head Pogue Shane MacGowan.
The song marks the glorious return of MacGowan into the rebel army fold.
"Shane recorded his bit in Dublin, he was the only one who changed the lyrics for his part. I had written the lyrics to the song and then he went off and did his own thing."

I am your servant, Mother Ireland
Where Dan Breen and Sean Treacy
Shot the coppers in the Glen
Phoblacht na Eireann
Workers and farmers
Not only free but Gaelic
Not just Gaelic but also free.

"He brought the song to differant level when he did it. I then had to re-write to attempt to bring the rest to that level. That's the genius of Shane MacGowan: when all is said and done, his are the songs that will go on. I don't know if people are singing 'With or Without You' in a pub one hundred years from now. You can bet they will be singing Shane's songs."

Na Comharsana With Shane MacGowan.
This is a two track single relased in Ireland. It was recorded following Tipperary's All-Ireland win in 2001.
Na Comharsana means "The Neighbours" and is pronounced Naa Coorsanna. The group formed to record a mini album to raise funds to a local anti-landfill project. Shane was a supporter of the band and often appeared with them in impromptu sessions. The track "Sons of Knocknagow" might be relased on a new album by the group. Shane and the band payed for the pressing of this single themselves and released it locally in Tipperary. Knocknagow is a spiritual name for Tipperary which is Shanes home county.

Track 1
The Sons of Knocknagow
Lyrics; Eamonn Butler
Music Composed and Arranged by Denis Carey

Music Video Distributors and Network Ireland have announced the upcoming release of If I Should all From Grace The Shane MacGowan Story for worldwide distribution on DVD this spring. If I Should Fall From Grace is a portrait of one of the most outrageous figures in the music world today. Includes performances/videos of the songs: Paddy Public Enemy No.1, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, Infatuation, Gabrielle, Waxie’s Dargle, Streams of Whiskey, Dirty Old Town, The Irish Rover, Fiesta, Rainy Night in Soho, Fairytale of New York, White City, Summer in Siam, Victoria, That Woman’s Got Me Drinking, Haunted and Lonesome Highway. 3. November Found this message from Philip Chevron on the Shitenonions.com Guestbook.

"Just passing by, found a friendly atmosphere and thought I'd say Hello! Good website. Sorry there definitely won't be any Pogues Christmas Shows this year - no one enjoyed last year's dates more than me! - but we're hoping to start releasing some of our archive stuff next year. Including, yes, some of the "Hell's Ditch" demos and outtakes. It'll take a while to get everything sorted, but myself, James and Darryl have put ourselves in charge so with any luck it'll start to trickle out. Mind yourselves. Love Philip XX"

Can't wait to get this album. Would be great to get a Demo/Outtake collection from The Pogues.
